Ion™ Robotic Bronchoscopy
Robotic-assisted peripheral lung biopsy with sub-millimeter precision and CT-to-body navigation.
Dr. Stephen Milan combines decades of ICU expertise with the Ion™ endoluminal system from Intuitive Surgical — delivering accurate diagnoses and minimally invasive thoracic procedures across South Florida.

The Ion™ endoluminal system enables ultra-thin, fully articulating navigation through small, peripheral airways — the regions where lung cancer often originates. Earlier diagnosis. Fewer complications. Faster recovery.
Smaller access, less discomfort, and faster recovery than traditional surgical biopsy.
180° articulation reaches lesions deep in the pulmonary periphery.
Most patients return home the same day after outpatient sedation.
Integrated CT-to-body registration for real-time navigation.

Evidence-based protocols tailored to each patient — from screening through advanced intervention.
Risk stratification and robotic biopsy of suspicious lung lesions.
Low-dose CT programs and longitudinal nodule tracking for high-risk patients.
Chronic airway management with personalized treatment plans.
Therapeutic thoracentesis and tunneled pleural catheter placement.
Comprehensive evaluation, hemodynamic studies, and advanced therapies.
Multidisciplinary diagnosis and longitudinal disease management.
Diagnostic studies and treatment for obstructive sleep apnea.
Mediastinal sampling via EBUS and targeted immunomodulatory care.
Performed in accredited South Florida surgical centers with full anesthesia support and same-day discharge for most patients.
Robotic-assisted peripheral lung biopsy with sub-millimeter precision and CT-to-body navigation.
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided sampling of mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes for accurate lung-cancer staging.
GPS-like virtual airway navigation to access lesions previously requiring open biopsy.
Image-guided drainage of pleural effusions for diagnostic clarity and symptomatic relief.
Tunneled catheter placement for recurrent malignant or chronic pleural effusions.
Targeted therapy for severe asthma not controlled with maximal medical management.

Dr. Milan serves as an intensivist in South Florida ICUs, directing care for patients with respiratory failure, septic shock, and complex multi-organ dysfunction. Families gain a single, steady point of contact in the most critical moments.
Dr. Milan caught a small nodule on a follow-up scan that everyone else had missed. The Ion procedure was nothing — I was home by lunchtime.
Compassionate and brilliant. When my father was on the ventilator, Dr. Milan called every single day. He gave our family clarity in the worst week of our lives.
I have never felt more respected as a patient. He explained every option, never rushed, and the biopsy result was definitive.
Robotic bronchoscopy — performed with the Ion™ system — uses an ultra-thin, fully articulating catheter to reach small lung nodules with extraordinary precision. It is most often recommended for patients with peripheral pulmonary nodules that are difficult or impossible to biopsy with traditional bronchoscopy.
